Allan Webb Limited and BMT Secure Handbook Management Contract

Allan Webb Limited and BMT are pleased to announce the successful retention of the Handbook Management Contract (HMC) with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). The contract will be delivered over five years, with an option to extend by a further year.

Allan Webb will be providing documentation for a range of naval vessels, from submarines and destroyers to survey ships. We will be supported by BMT, a leading subject matter expert in naval engineering, naval architecture and technical documentation.

The Handbook Management Contract involves the maintenance, revision and amendment of over 6,500 publications that support the upkeep of all in service Royal Navy Warships, Royal Fleet Auxiliaries, support craft, shore stations, dockyards and munition depots.

“Establishing close bonds with DE&S through collaboration and teamwork has been a fundamental aspect of our operations through the years”, commented Steve Rigsby, Managing Director of Allan Webb Limited. “We are delighted that the retention of this contract will allow us to continue this facet of our long-standing support of the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary in providing these essential services.

“Our teams working on the contract in Barrow-in-Furness and Stonehouse undertake exemplary work due to their expert knowledge of marine engineering and the needs of the end user. This depth of knowledge and experience has enabled us to establish a successful apprenticeship scheme, developing young engineers to help support the contract and the rest of the business.”

Simon Willmore, Head of Technical Information and Documentation Services at BMT, said: “It’s a very proud moment for the experienced teams here at Bath and Weymouth to be tasked again by the Royal Navy to support their digital data documentation needs. The work we will be undertaking will underpin the entire life-cycle of the Royal Navy’s technical documentation, and will see essential day-to-day support being delivered to end users who need it the most through an online, easy to access portal.

“The work that we are doing will directly support UK Government’s ongoing digital data transformation and will help provide a national secure facility for assembling, hosting, and maintaining military technical documentation on national infrastructure assets to a very high standard.”

The dedicated HMC teams in Barrow-in-Furness, Stonehouse, Bath and Weymouth provide the ongoing management and maintenance of a centralised digital library of technical documentation. These databases are standalone applications that work together to provide the Navy with a joined-up, configuration-controlled technical publications solution.
