Enhancing our Employees’ Capabilities

Allan Webb prides itself on the professional development of our employees and the excellent supportability engineering training portfolio we have on offer. In a first for the company, we’ve front loaded the newest member of our ILS team, John Jackson, with our extensive ILS & Supportability Engineering courses to facilitate his transition from military to civilian life.

John Jackson, joined AWL this year after a long and successful career as an Engineer in submarines, which included an extensive, hands on approach, to supportability engineering. Providing John with access to our ILS courses during his induction to AWL ensured that his practical experience as an end user of Technical Through Life Support (TTLS) was further enhanced by a wider theoretical understanding of the subject and that he would be up to date with industry best practices. An added bonus included the easing of any trepidation he felt with regards to his new role outside of military service. He’s shared his experiences with our new approach:

“Having been new to the world of ILS in industry, I was a little apprehensive as to how I would feel and fit in to the AWL business and the way the company worked. That was all put aside right from the start even during the interview stage as I was made to feel very welcome and comfortable.

Once I had been offered an ILS position within the company, I was made to feel more and more welcome as every day passed with the professional way that information was communicated to me prior to my start date. I was informed that there were a few courses that the company would like me to take part in prior to my placement, these were not normally offered at this stage of employment however I was to be one of the first to be offered these courses as part of the onboarding process.

I gladly accepted the offer and I could never thank the company enough for this opportunity. The e-Learning ‘Introduction to ILS‘ course refreshed my understanding of the fundamentals which was then followed by the 5-day ‘ILS & Supportability Engineering Management‘ course which was very professionally delivered by Stephen Hunt and gave me a much better and more in-depth understanding and insight in to the ILS function across the supply chain. I was fortunate enough to have 2 fellow staff members with me on the course who guided me throughout and shared their vast experience and knowledge with me.

I strongly feel that the professionalism and assistance I received throughout my onboarding process, including the courses and training I received has really helped me feel more comfortable and confident in my role within DE&S and enabled me to hit the ground running. Exposure to my fellow team members during the courses also really helped me settle in to the new position quickly and confidently carry out the various aspects of role within the ILS function.”
